(10:00:42) lxmaier: the meeting shall come to order!
(10:01:04) lxmaier: we have a busy agenda today--first, we'll have a
roll-call though
(10:01:07) lxmaier: AlexMaier
(10:01:09) MrTom: ThomasCanniot
(10:01:20) [splinux]: DamienDurand
(10:01:24) iWolf: JeffreyTadlock
(10:01:30) davidn [n=ke4qqq@68.143.127.5.nw.nuvox.net] entered the room.
(10:01:32) [sasquatch]: JonFautley
(10:01:36) davidn: DavidNalley
(10:01:47) glezos: DimitrisGlezos
(10:02:21) lxmaier: alrighty \
(10:02:31) lxmaier: i am very glad to see you all here
(10:02:52) lxmaier: i guess you all know that a Famsco reelection is
currently in progress
(10:02:57) UgoliniFrancesco: UgoliniFrancesco,
(10:03:20) lxmaier:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/SteeringCommittee/Election/2006Nominations
(10:03:36) lxmaier: this is where you can see current candidates
(10:03:59) lxmaier: and this is where you should add yourself to, if
you are up to the challenge ;)
(10:04:18) lxmaier: we have four candidates so far, and we need to
fill seven seats
(10:04:56) lxmaier: so i hope to see more people get in the ring
(10:04:57) MrTom: !
MrHappy MrTom
(10:05:08) lxmaier: > MrTom
(10:05:23) MrTom: the ideal situation would be th have more than 7
candidates so as to have a little choice
(10:05:38) UgoliniFrancesco: lxmaier, are there requirements to join
the nomination ?
(10:05:39) MrTom: eof
(10:05:44) lxmaier: absolutely, MrTom
(10:06:11) lxmaier: UgoliniFrancesco: yes, you have to be a member of
the Ambassadors group in the Fedora Accounts system
(10:06:21) UgoliniFrancesco: only this ?
(10:06:42) lxmaier: UgoliniFrancesco:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/SteeringCommittee/Election/Rules
(10:06:53) [sasquatch]: presumably, you also have to have an interest
in the Fedora project and the ambassadors program ;)
[sasquatch] [splinux]
(10:07:12) debloxie [n=debloxie@196.1.176.50] entered the room.
(10:07:16) lxmaier: [sasquatch]: yepp, that would help :)
(10:07:21) [sasquatch]: thought so :)
(10:07:54) lxmaier: just a quick reminder -- please use "!" to show
you wish to say something, so this meeting can be kept in some
semblance of order :)
(10:07:58) glezos: !
(10:08:01) lxmaier: > glezos
(10:08:03) glezos: Seeing the low participation on the meetings and
the nominations, I suggest at some time discuss and probably
reconsider the characteristics of the ambassadors program, like scope,
goals, channels of communication with it's members, marketing of the
program, etc.
(10:08:05) glezos: eof
(10:08:08) debloxie: ok
(10:08:42) UgoliniFrancesco: !
(10:09:04) UgoliniFrancesco: i think that isn't a problem of goals but
a problem of people,
(10:09:05) debloxie: !
(10:09:12) lxmaier: glezos: if you have opinions on these topics, why
don't you run for a Fmasco seat? This way you can have direct impact
on the outcome :)
(10:09:31) glezos: !
(10:09:32) debloxie: i second what alex said
(10:09:42) lxmaier: > glezos
(10:10:04) glezos: unfortunately, I cannot spend more time than what I
am already spending for the Fedora project (tools, translations,
docs). I *really* hope this will change in the future. :)
(10:10:07) glezos: eof
(10:10:16) lxmaier: > debloxie
(10:10:42) debloxie: i agree with Ugolini that the problem is with people
(10:11:07) debloxie: am sure everyone is trying to catch up with
events but things creep up
(10:11:22) debloxie: like this is my first time joining the meeting
(10:11:35) debloxie: coz of many factors bounding on where am from (Nigeria)
(10:12:01) lxmaier: debloxie: EOF?
(10:12:02) debloxie: things like unreliable internet access, high
access fees etc
(10:12:40) debloxie: whats EOF ? pls pardon my naivety
(10:12:56) lxmaier: debloxie: are you finished? EOF=End Of File
(10:13:09) debloxie: yes
(10:13:13) debloxie: thanks
(10:13:16) lxmaier: may i respectfully disagree with the whole premise
that there is a problem? we are in a volunteer organization, and
cannot expect a full-time commitment from anyone.
(10:13:18) debloxie: for now
(10:14:10) lxmaier: everybody must understand that whatever the
volunteer can do, ever so little, is still better than asking too much
of them, and having nobody do anything
(10:15:02) lxmaier: so i do not see a problem with people--the people
are doing all they can, and if it's too little, we have to live with
that
(10:15:30) lxmaier: all of us should learn to appreciate the
commitments of other group members, however small they may be
(10:15:58) lxmaier: debloxie here has access problems, and i bet a few
other Ambassadors do
(10:16:36) lxmaier: still they do what they can--and I think everybody
in this group are doing as much as they can--some more, some less, but
we're all doing useful stuff
(10:17:31) lxmaier: the initial hype around this group is gone, it's
business as usual now, and I understand how many of you miss the times
when we had 20+ members in each meeting
(10:18:07) lxmaier: but we are maturing as a group, and there is
nothing wrong with seeing less activity -- as long as we still
accomplish things
(10:18:20) lxmaier: and we do accomplish a lot, every month.
(10:18:59) lxmaier: EOF
(10:19:07) glezos: !
(10:19:18) lxmaier: > glezos
(10:19:59) glezos: I agree with lxmaier. I still think that we could
investigate if we *could* do more though.
(10:20:00) glezos: eof.
(10:20:42) lxmaier: glezos: sure, and i think the best way to deal
with this is to have new people try new ideas out, by joinung the
famsco
(10:21:28) lxmaier: so, any more questions/comments on the election?

(10:22:53) lxmaier: FreeMedia : ThomasChung
(10:23:07) lxmaier: tchung is not present, so i'll fill in for him
(10:23:29) lxmaier: he sent a message to the list, saying FreeMedia
has fulfilled 200 request this month
(10:24:08) lxmaier: with help of KarlieRobinson, they should be able
to fulfill another 60 at least this month.
(10:24:29) lxmaier: I think this effort deserves a round of applause :)
(10:24:46) lxmaier: next project
(10:24:49) lxmaier: VideoContest : AlexMaier
(10:25:13) lxmaier: the contest has completed--and the winner was
announced on the fedora-announce-list
(10:25:51) lxmaier: all participants have received a pair of fedora
flip-flops each, and the winner got a dvd camcorder
(10:26:29) lxmaier: any questions?
(10:26:35) lxmaier: i guess we can move on to events now
(10:26:42) UgoliniFrancesco: only congratulation for the winner
(10:26:49) lxmaier: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents

(10:27:46) iWolf: here.
(10:28:13) iWolf: We are doing pretty good here. T-Shirt order going

(10:28:22) iWolf: Making sure things are in place with the organizers.
(10:28:27) iWolf: Things are looking good.

(10:28:51) lxmaier: thanks iWolf
(10:28:56) lxmaier: any questions/comments?
(10:29:28) lxmaier: bpepple: you have something to add about the ohio
linux fest?
(10:30:30) bpepple: Yeah, I'm looking to create some printed material
to give out at the booth, and would be interested in a little help.
Is there anyone good to contact that could help with creating
something like this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DIYMarketing?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=Ubuntu_leaflet.pdf
(10:30:53) debloxie left the room (quit: Read error: 104 (Connection
reset by peer)).
(10:31:12) lxmaier: i think we have soem stuff linked from
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors
(10:31:56) lxmaier: "Fedora Presentations" might be a good place to start
(10:32:18) lxmaier: and i remember someone preparing a leaflet for
their event, so maybe ask on the list?
(10:32:25) bpepple: Yeah, I looked there but didn't really see
anything other than Impress presentation.
(10:32:36) bpepple: Ok, I'll send an e-mail to the list later today. Thanks.

(10:37:01) [sasquatch]: hmm, LinuxWorld - to be honest, I've not had
anything to do with it :)
(10:37:18) lxmaier: do you know whether anybody has?
(10:37:21) [sasquatch]: I'll ping JoeEarly and see what's happening
(10:37:23) [sasquatch]: no idea :(
(10:37:33) lxmaier: do you still intend to be at the show?
(10:37:34) [sasquatch]: I've been away from Ambassadors stuff for a
while due to work commitments, I'm afraid :(
(10:37:38) [sasquatch]: I can be, yeah
(10:38:05) lxmaier: it is a big deal, and i think it would be
important to have a fedora booth set up in the .ORG pavillion
(10:38:15) [sasquatch]: absoloutely
(10:38:15) starbase_947 [n=starbase@192.117.179.58] entered the room.

us to preparing the install party
